His first major success began when longtime friend Chuck Glaser, arranged a live audition between Jimmy, and Billy Sherrill. After one song, Billy signed Jimmy to a five year contract with Epic Records.

Since then, it has been recorded around a hundred times and has received nearly five million airplays in the US and became a worldwide pop hit.

Crystal Shawanda (born July 26, 1983) is a Canadian country music artist who crossed over to the blues charts with her cd Fish out of Water, and has continued to blaze a new music trail with her cd Voodoo Woman, which stayed in the blues charts for an incredible 83 weeks.. CMT documented her rise to fame in the six-part series Crystal: Living the Dream, which was broadcast in February 2008. Signed to RCA Nashville in 2007, she released her first single, "You Can Let Go", in Canada in January 2008. It was the fastest climbing single on the Canadian Country Singles Chart since Carolyn Dawn Johnson's "Georgia" in 2000, reaching the Top 10 in five weeks. It was released in the United States on February 25, 2008 . Laid Back ,
(written by songwriter Sonny Tackett) her first single from Fish Out Of Water became a #1 the week of April 22 2018 on the Canadianaboriginolcharts. Crystal has a new cd due for release anyday, an awesome assortment of soul, blues, americana songs by Crystal and Dewayne Strobel, her husband ,Guitarist, and contributions by other great songwriters, including one remake of the classic Sonny Tackett
song, "Would You Know Love," and a collaboration with Crystal and Sonny on the blues tune "Midnite Blues". Another great addition is a collaboration with the great Nashville songwriter David Norris, plus the David Norris composition "Church House Blues". A complete track listing and credits will be forthcoming soon. Crystal and Dewayne just got off a three month tour of the Canadian Blues and Indigenous festival circuit and are finishing up the new cd due for release anyday. We look forward to their visit here at The Sonny Tackett Show, and will have the schedule up for air dates as soon as possible.
One interesting fact for East Kentuckians, (where the show will be filmed), is that Dewayne Strobel is a fellow Kentuckian, born and raised in East Ky., and has a long history here. He has been friends , fellow songwriting partner, and Brothers of The Road with our own Sonny Tackett, whom he met while playing guitar for Kys own local artist Marlow Tackett. So his visit to the Sonny Tackett Show with Crystal Shawanda will be a homecoming and a wonderful show for all involved. More information to come, with air dates and times.
